Second Annual First Tee Ancira Hole-in-One Shootout Sets Records at The Quarry Golf Club

The Second Annual First Tee Ancira Hole-in-One Shootout delivered an unforgettable night of golf, excitement, and community impact at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio. With a record-breaking 125 participants and over $60,000 raised for First Tee Greater San Antonio, this year’s event was bigger and better than ever.

A One-of-a-Kind Golf Experience

The Ancira Hole-in-One Shootout is unlike any other golf event in San Antonio. All 18 holes were converted into Par 3s, giving every participant 18 shots and 18 chances to win big. Putters stayed in the bag, this night was all about going for the pin.

The stakes could not have been higher. Nine holes offered participants a shot at $40,000 toward a new car courtesy of Ancira, while the other nine holes put $20,000 in cash on the line. And on every single hole, $200 in cash was awarded to the closest-to-the-pin winner, keeping the energy electric all night long.

Each participant received a tee gift, drink tickets, and enjoyed a reception with appetizers following the tournament. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for: the Shootout. All 18 closest-to-the-pin winners from the evening faced off for one final chance at a $50,000 cash prize, capping off a thrilling night of competition.

Record Turnout, Record Impact

This year’s event drew a record 125 participants, a testament to the growing enthusiasm for this unique fundraiser and the mission it supports. Thanks to the incredible generosity of participants, sponsors, and the broader San Antonio community, the evening raised over $60,000 for First Tee Greater San Antonio, funding that goes directly toward impacting the lives of kids and teens in the community through the game of golf.

We would like to thank Ancira for sponsoring this event and for their continued commitment to making this night possible year after year.

First Tee – Greater San Antonio Participants Selected to Compete at First Tee National Championship

Two participants from First Tee – Greater San Antonio have earned a spot on the national stage.

Jack Polansky of Churchill High School and Jules Mahan of Pieper High School were selected to compete in the First Tee National Championship following a rigorous application and selection process that identifies the top First Tee players from across the country.

Polansky has been involved with First Tee for nearly 11 years and will continue his golf career at Berry College, where he plans to study environmental science. Mahan, a 10-year participant, will attend Murray State University on a golf scholarship and major in business management. This is the third year in a row that Jules has been selected to compete in the First Tee National Championship.

The First Tee National Championship is the organization’s premier competitive event, bringing together 48 of its top participants for a 54-hole stroke-play tournament. The field is split into two divisions with 24 boys and 24 girls competing at the Finley Golf Club on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In addition to competition, participants take part in educational sessions and discussions centered around personal growth, leadership, and opportunities within the golf industry. The event emphasizes First Tee’s core values of growing through challenge, pursuing goals, and using good judgment while competing at a high level.

Performance in the championship is also recognized nationally, with results submitted to organizations such as the American Junior Golf Association, Junior Golf Scoreboard, and World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Division winners will earn the Tattersall Cup and may receive an exemption into the PURE Insurance Championship.

Polansky and Mahan’s selection highlights their dedication to the game and places them among the top junior golfers representing First Tee programs nationwide.

11th Annual First Tee Invitational a Record-Setting Success for First Tee – Greater San Antonio

The 11th Annual First Tee Invitational presented by the Michael M. Peacock Foundation, and hosted by the Canyon Springs Senior Men’s Golf Association, was a record-setting success, raising more than $80,000 in support of First Tee – Greater San Antonio and its mission to empower youth through golf.

Held at Canyon Springs Golf Club as the 9th year serving as an Official Fiesta® event, the sold-out tournament welcomed 144 participants for a day centered on community, philanthropy, and impact. The event continues to be one of First Tee – Greater San Antonio’s signature fundraisers, and over the past eight years, the tournament has netted nearly $310,000 to support programs that help young people build character, confidence, and life skills through the game of golf.

This year’s event featured an exciting day on the course, along with a robust online auction and raffle that generated additional support through unique golf experiences, travel getaways, sports memorabilia, and premium packages. Popular auction items included rounds at premier golf destinations, resort stays, entertainment packages, and exclusive experiences, all contributing to the event’s fundraising success.

The tournament’s continued growth would not be possible without the dedicated support of longtime partners. The Canyon Springs Senior Men’s Golf Association once again played a vital role in hosting and supporting the event, while presenting sponsor Michael M. Peacock Foundation helped drive another successful year. First Tee – Greater San Antonio also recognized the generosity of community partners Carrabba’s Italian Grill, which has donated food for six consecutive years, and Las Palapas, a supporter of the tournament for the past five years.

The success of the First Tee Invitational reflects a community committed to investing in the next generation. Every dollar raised supports First Tee – Greater San Antonio’s efforts to help young people grow through experiences that build resilience, leadership, and character.

As the tournament continues to grow, so does its impact, making this year’s record-setting event another memorable chapter in a tradition of golf and giving.

First Tee – Greater San Antonio Hosts Valero Texas Open Kid’s Golf Clinic Presented by PGA TOUR Superstore, Impacting 200+ Youth

First Tee – Greater San Antonio participants had a memorable week thanks to the Valero Texas Open and PGA TOUR Superstore.

First Tee – Greater San Antonio hosted the Valero Texas Open Kid’s Golf Clinic presented by PGA TOUR Superstore, welcoming more than 200 local kids and their families for an evening at the First Tee Learning Center.

The clinic began with the arrival of PGA TOUR professionals Nick Dunlap, S.H. Kim, and Alejandro Tosti, who landed by helicopter on the driving range. They spent time with participants answering questions, signing autographs, demonstrating trick shots, and offering golf tips. Each child received snacks, a T-shirt, and a Valero Texas Open goody bag as part of the experience.

The clinic was presented by PGA TOUR Superstore, which also presented a $15,000 check to First Tee – Greater San Antonio. The funding is part of a renewed partnership with the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, which committed $10 million to First Tee chapters over the next five years.

Going into the weekend as part of Valero Texas Open week, First Tee participants and their families also received free admission to attend the final round of the tournament. Attendees were given event T-shirts and hats and had the opportunity to take a photo with now two-time Valero Texas Open champion J.J. Spaun.

First Tee participants ages 14 and older also had the opportunity to volunteer at the tournament practice facilities throughout the week, giving them an up-close look at PGA TOUR professionals and behind-the-scenes access to the event.

First Tee – San Antonio Participant Hosts Blood Drive at Learning Center

Tim, a dedicated teen participant of First Tee – Greater San Antonio and the First Tee National Innovators Forum, turned inspiration into action by hosting a life-changing blood drive in partnership with the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center.

Through the First Tee Innovators Forum, teens are empowered to develop service projects that create meaningful change in their communities. Inspired by a fellow participant who had organized a successful blood drive, Tim shifted his original project idea and chose to focus on saving lives. As Tim shared, “Knowing my efforts in putting this blood drive together can help save lives really helped inspire me in my choice of my project.”

The blood drive also marked an important milestone for First Tee – Greater San Antonio, serving as the organization’s first blood drive since December 28, 2020. With 23 community members signed up to donate, the drive exceeded its goal of 18 units by collecting 20 whole blood donations, reaching 111% of goal. Each whole blood donation includes red blood cells, platelets, and plasma, and can save up to three lives, supporting trauma patients, cancer treatments, mothers and newborns, and more. In total, the drive has the potential to impact up to 60 lives.

A key partner in the effort, South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is a nonprofit community blood center that provides blood, plasma, platelets, and other lifesaving components to more than 100 hospitals across 48 South Texas counties. For more than 50 years, the organization has evolved to meet patient and hospital needs with a mission centered on saving and enhancing lives. Tim’s project directly contributed to that mission.

Tim credits First Tee – Greater San Antonio for helping bring the project to life. “I wouldn’t have a location if Ms. Carrie Kimbell hadn’t graciously let me host it at the First Tee. Coach Steve Lennon has been an amazing encourager, helping me with both minor and major details of the blood drive. The First Tee has helped me be more confident in myself and my skills. I wouldn’t be able to tackle this project without their support.”

Beyond the numbers, the blood drive reflects the leadership, empathy, and service at the heart of First Tee. Through one teen’s vision and the support of an engaged community, this project became more than a blood drive. It became a powerful example of young people creating real impact.

Reflecting on the experience, Tim shared, “Meeting people from across the country from different First Tees was so fun. The Innovators Forum was my highlight of 2025, and I cannot wait to represent First Tee – Greater San Antonio again.”

Izzy Kornmeyer shares the transformative power of golf

Izzy Kornmeyer didn’t know how to hold a golf club when she started at First Tee – Indiana in 8th grade. Now, as a high school senior and varsity golfer, she can’t stop thinking about the game that has completely changed her life.

“Golf has changed me for the better, and I am forever grateful for it,” she said.

Izzy’s golf journey started with Sunday mornings watching her dad and grandpa head out to play. When she decided to try high school golf, her mom signed her up for First Tee, hoping the program would give her daughter the foundation she needed.

That first tournament was humbling. After top-slicing her opening drive, Izzy shot 110. But instead of giving up, she leaned into the challenge. Several summer tournaments and countless practice sessions later, she returned to that same course and shot 83, proving what dedication and perseverance could accomplish.

Now Izzy is preparing to play collegiate golf at St. Thomas University in Miami, where she’ll be a first-generation college student.

Finding her voice

The transformation wasn’t just about golf scores. Izzy arrived at First Tee as a quiet, uncertain beginner who felt out of her element. Over four years, she evolved into a confident mentor and leader who now helps launch new First Tee – Indiana initiatives through the Leaders In Training Program.

Her leadership extends far beyond the golf course. Izzy serves on First Tee – Indiana’s Participant Advisory Council and was chosen as a Youth Deacon at Second Presbyterian Church.

Izzy’s approach to leadership is guided by her faith and the values she’s developed through First Tee. She lives by Matthew 20:26: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”

“I now understand that true leadership isn’t about being in control,” Izzy said. “It’s about being present, expressing kindness and prioritizing other people before yourself.”

Whether she’s volunteering in the church nursery, creating encouraging TikTok content or being the first to help others at First Tee – Indiana, Izzy leads with kindness and compassion.

Making an impact

When she’s not competing, Izzy is often watching professional golf, practicing and or giving back to others. In 2024, she attended the First Tee Innovators Forum in Phoenix. During the event, participants plan service projects they execute in their communities. Izzy ultimately collected 700 full-sized hygiene products and $500 for the Julian Center, Indiana’s largest organization supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crises.

Her journey from a nervous beginner who couldn’t grip a club to a confident leader who helps others find their own path proves what First Tee has always known: With the right support, young people can achieve remarkable growth.

For Izzy, that growth has been about more than improving her golf game. It’s been about discovering her voice and leading with kindness – one shot, one challenge and one act of service at a time.

Vivian D’Orazi: From identifying my strengths to finding my calling

Vivian D’Orazi is an alumna of First Tee — Metropolitan New York and a First Tee Scholar. Now a senior and member of the golf team at York College of Pennsylvania, Vivian reflected on one of the most impactful experiences she had at First Tee:

At just 5 years old, I had no idea how much of an impact First Tee would have on my life. What started as weekly classes quickly turned into something so much more, a community that gave me a coach who feels like family, lifelong friends, and opportunities I never could’ve imagined. Today, I’m playing collegiate golf and pursuing a degree in marketing, all thanks to the foundation First Tee helped me build.

One of the most impactful experiences I’ve had through First Tee was participating in a five-week Leadership Series with PGA Tour Superstore. During this program, which takes place at PGA TOUR Superstore locations across the country, I took a deep dive into who I am, identifying my personal strengths, values, and the direction I wanted to take in life.

As part of the series, we were challenged to explore careers that aligned with our individual strengths and values. I discovered that my top strengths include achiever, arranger, relator, restorative, and belief. My values, integrity, family, teamwork, and helping others, also became clear.

At first, I wasn’t sure how those qualities could translate into a career. But after doing some research and reflection, I realized that marketing might be a good fit. From there, I began exploring the many paths within marketing, and that’s when I found something that truly sparked my interest, event marketing. The idea of creating meaningful experiences for others, moments they’ll remember and enjoy, resonated with me deeply.

I’ve made so many core memories at sporting events as a kid, laughing and cheering with my family and friends. Now, I want to help create those same experiences for other people. That’s where my strengths and values really come to life, through collaboration, creativity, and a desire to bring joy to others.

Leadership Series opened a door I didn’t even know existed. It’s what led me to major in marketing in college, and now, in my senior year, I feel more confident than ever in the path I’m on.

At the end of the five-week series, I was honored to be selected for the First Tee Leadership Summit in partnership with PGA TOUR Superstore in Montana, an experience that took everything to the next level. I rode a horse for the first time, went white water rafting, and took in some of the most breathtaking views I’ve ever seen. But more than that, I stepped outside of my comfort zone in ways I never expected. I took on new challenges, embraced different ways of thinking, and began to view leadership through a broader, more empowering lens.

Being surrounded by other motivated, passionate First Tee participants in such a beautiful place helped me grow not just as a leader, but as a person. It gave me the confidence to use my voice, trust in my abilities, and believe in the power of staying true to my values.

Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for how far I’ve come, and even more thankful for the experiences and people who helped me get here. From taking my first swing with First Tee to now preparing to graduate college with a clear vision for the future, I wouldn’t trade a minute of the journey.

The annual female empowerment event will be making its Ponte Vedra Beach debut

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – (Nov. 6, 2025) – First Tee and John Deere will welcome 36 girls from across the country to the 2025 Drive Your Future Academy, a five-day leadership program created to help girls develop critical skills that will serve them in college and beyond.

Known for her many movie and television roles, First Tee Ambassador Kathryn Newton will take part in a fireside chat. As an alumna of First Tee – Miami, she brings both a personal connection to the organization and a passion for empowering the next generation. Newton and other adult mentors will also join the girls for a golf outing at The Yards.

November 7, 2025: Attendees play golf at The Yards and take part in a workshop with a John Deere executive during the First Tee Drive Your Future Academy in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

From Nov. 6-10, female leaders from organizations like John Deere, CapTech, Accenture and Cisco will lead sessions including:

  • Advocating for yourself and others
  • Overcoming adverse situations
  • Cultivating meaningful relationships
  • Roadmap to successful mentorship
  • Embracing self-awareness

The 36 teen participants will also lead a volunteer opportunity at the Salvation Army and explore historic downtown St. Augustine.

The event reinforces First Tee’s commitment to empowering girls through its programs, which are offered through 150 chapters across the country. Most First Tee Chapters provide dedicated programming for girls, intentionally inviting and engaging them in a variety of opportunities. The First Tee Drive Your Future Academy presented by John Deere is one of a full slate of teen participant events that are open to girls in the First Tee Network.

“With our commitment to providing innovative solutions to our customers, John Deere is always looking ahead, and our support of the Drive Your Future Academy is no exception,” said Bridget Dusing, sponsorship and events marketing manager at John Deere. “We are proud to support First Tee and the opportunities they provide to help prepare the next generation of leaders.”

The teens were selected for the Drive Your Future Academy through a national application process based on essays, letters of recommendation and involvement in First Tee and other activities.

“The Drive Your Future Academy represents everything we believe about the power of investing in young women — when girls develop confidence, leadership skills and meaningful connections early, they don’t just succeed in golf, they transform entire industries and communities,”  said Jennifer Weiler, senior vice president of network relations at First Tee. “We’re proud to partner with John Deere to create this transformative experience that equips these 36 young leaders with the tools and network they need to break barriers and drive change in whatever field they choose.”

Since 2012, John Deere has supported First Tee, a youth development organization celebrating nearly three decades of teaching life skills and helping kids and teens build their strength of character through golf.

Addison Murphy brings heart, hustle and hope to Drive Your Future Academy

Addison Murphy’s grandpa first handed her a golf club when she was just 3. In addition to introducing her to the sport she loves, her family instilled other values that guide her way.

“If you want something, you have to work for it,” she said. “Things don’t just happen on their own. You have to show up and keep trying, even when it gets frustrating or doesn’t go the way you hoped.”

That philosophy has carried her through significant life transitions, including a move from Georgia to Pennsylvania in 2022. Starting fresh in a new city and school wasn’t easy, but Addison kept showing up and growing her community.

Though golf had always been part of Addison’s life, she didn’t begin playing seriously until age 13, when her mother discovered First Tee while searching for golf classes. Since joining First Tee – Greater Philadelphia, Addison has become one of the chapter’s most engaged participants, attending over 45 classes across seven locations in just the past year.

Her dedication has paid off both on and off the course – from Top 3 finishes at chapter tournaments to unique experiences, like serving as a standard bearer at the 2025 Truist Championship, Addison has made the most of her time with First Tee – Greater Philadelphia. Now she’s preparing to embark on a new adventure: attending the 2025 First Tee Drive Your Future Academy presented by John Deere.

At the five-day female-empowerment event held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Addison and her cohort will hear from accomplished female business leaders on topics like networking, building confidence and the importance of giving back.

Unleashing her potential

A high school sophomore, Addison has already demonstrated a passion for entrepreneurship. She completed First Tee – Greater Philadelphia’s Caddie Academy earlier this year, and she spoke at the chapter’s annual fundraising event, addressing a crowd of more than 150 donors.

Her service work spans multiple areas. Through her church youth group, she’s participated in local service projects and even traveled to the Dominican Republic to help build a house for a family in need. Her passion for animals led her to contribute over 200 hours to Rucker Dog Training in Georgia, helping foster and prepare therapy dogs for schools, community programs and law enforcement — work that earned her the AKC Canine & Me Community Achievement Award in 2022 and a certificate of appreciation from the Gainesville Police Department.

After moving to Pennsylvania, Addison didn’t let distance stop her community engagement. She launched “Addie Trains Puppers,” her own dog walking and training business.

‘Challenges can turn into growth’

As Addison prepares for the Drive Your Future Academy, she’s exploring multiple potential career paths, from business and architecture to music production. Whatever direction she ultimately chooses, her approach will likely remain the same: show up, work hard and keep pushing forward.

“Challenges can turn into growth if you don’t give up,” she said, reflecting on bunker struggles, big moves and the ongoing journey of becoming who she wants to be.

The Drive Your Future Academy will bring together exceptional young women from across the First Tee network for leadership development, career exploration and empowerment. For Addison Murphy, it’s another opportunity to grow, give back and represent what First Tee stands for: building game changers, both on the course and in life.

First Tee hosts 2025 Innovators Forum empowering young leaders to drive positive change

The annual event convenes teen leaders from across the country to build community impact projects

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2025) – Youth development organization First Tee is proud to announce the return of its Innovators Forum, an annual workshop that equips and empowers teens from across the country to develop a meaningful service project to implement in their community.

Held from Oct. 2-5 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, home of the PGA TOUR, the 2025 First Tee Innovators Forum will bring together a select group of exceptional teen participants selected for their dedication to community service, leadership potential and innovative spirit.

The event provides an immersive experience, where teens will hear case studies from organizations like CapTech and Constellation, focusing on how they have used innovation to drive impact. Ultimately, teens will design and pitch service projects that address real challenges in their communities.

“Innovators Forum exemplifies what First Tee is all about: empowering the next generation to be changemakers on and off the course,” said Jennifer Weiler, senior vice president of network relations at First Tee. “These young leaders are not only passionate about golf but also about making a difference, and this event helps give them the tools to do it.”

Past forums have resulted in impactful projects ranging from environmental sustainability initiatives to mental health awareness campaigns and inclusive golf programs for underserved populations. Teens who execute the most impactful projects have the opportunity to earn stipends, with more than $25,000 awarded in 2024 to support their educational endeavors after high school.

In addition to including presentations from leaders in sports, business and social innovation, this year’s Innovators Forum will include an afternoon spent at Constellation Furyk & Friends, where participants will get to see legendary golfers and experience the natural beauty of Timuquana Country Club.

“I want to be the role model others were for me”: Derek Lee’s mission at First Tee – Oakland

Derek Lee of First Tee – Oakland understands the power of service. “For the past two years, I have volunteered as a junior coach and have helped elementary and middle school age kids discover the game of golf,” he said. “I want to be a positive role model and mentor for them, just as others were for me when I was their age.”

Now a high school junior, Derek joined the chapter as a participant when he was 7 years old, but it closed a couple years later. He took a break from golf until the COVID-19 pandemic made it one of the few activities available to kids. Then when First Tee – Oakland relaunched in 2023, Derek eagerly rejoined as a junior coach.

“Knowing I am helping to spark their interest in something that I myself love and am passionate about is incredibly rewarding,” he said. “It reminds me how impactful volunteering can be, and it motivates me to keep giving back to my community.”

Derek’s passion for helping others is a big part of the reason he’ll be the first participant from the re-opened First Tee – Oakland chapter to attend a national participant event. He’s heading across the country to Jacksonville, Florida, to take part in Innovators Forum this week.

At Innovators Forum, each participant develops a plan for a community service project they execute when they return home. Derek aspires to create expanded program offerings for First Tee – Oakland to ensure that younger kids remain engaged with the chapter and see their golf and life skills grow.

During Innovators Forum, Derek and his cohort will hear case studies from leaders at organizations like CapTech and Constellation, and they’ll attend Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS to see legendary golfers like Ernie Els and Vijay Singh.

When he’s back in Oakland, Derek aspires to take his own golf game to new heights. Already a plus-handicap player, he has big goals: “I strive to play in the most challenging tournaments I can, so I can show myself and coaches that I have the skills and can go toe-to-toe with some of the best junior golfers in the world,” he said. Ultimately, he aims to play collegiate golf at a top academic school.

Support First Tee programming for exceptional teens like Derek.
